Gardening Tricks

We know you love spending time in the garden; what gardener doesn't? Knowing this, we can’t ignore the fact that we are all living in the twenty-first century. You have places to be, families to take care of, and friends to socialize with, and at the end of the day, there isn't a lot of time to hang out in the garden. Here are some quick tips and tricks to help you get the most out of gardening.

Removing Rust – Your time is valuable, and you don’t want to waste it wrestling with rusty gardening tools. A fast, easy, incredibly effective way of removing rust from small tools is by using aluminum foil. Just take a generous piece of aluminum foil, crumple it up a bit, and use it as a brush to remove the rust. Lubricate the tool with water.

Deter Slugs and Grubs – Dealing with garden pests is incredibly frustrating and time consuming. Help your garden fight grubs and slugs by adding oak leaves to your mulch or compost pile. Oak leaves take a very long time to break down, considerably more time than others leaves like maple leaves. The natural bitterness of oak leaves will deter slugs and grubs.

Sticky Gloves – We hate it when gardening gloves cement themselves to sweaty hands. When this happens, removing them becomes a hassle, so, next time, add a dusting of baby powder to the insides of the gloves before putting them on. This will help snug gloves fit better and will also whisk away moisture, making it much easier to remove them when you’re done gardening.
